Role Details

Athlete Wellbeing and Engagement (AW&E) is recognised as essential to the fostering and retention of talent in the Australian high performance sport system. AW&E supports sustained excellence in high performance as well as success in other major aspects of life. SASI recognises the important roles of the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS), National Sporting Organisations (NSOs) and the National Institute Network (NIN) partners who collaborate in an effort to deliver best practice in AW&E. The SASI AW&E Adviser supports athletes as they navigate high performance programs, empowering them to find a balance between wellbeing, engagement in activities outside of training and competition, and the requirements of sport. This includes providing athletes with opportunities for personal and professional development, as well as referral for mental health servicing and meaningful community engagement initiatives. Effective delivery of this support requires sophisticated understandings, both of an athlete’s individual needs and the HP environment in which they operate. Underpinning all ‘operational’ considerations is a cultural foundation that ensures that an athlete’s experience of a HP program is affirmative, encouraged, and supported, and that athletes are able to talk positively about their time in sport. The AW&E Adviser reports to the Performance Services Manager. The role holder will foster strong working relationships with coaches, athletes and their families, SASI staff and the National AW&E Network.

Special Conditions

  • The Incumbent will be required to participate in the Agency's Performance Management Program.
  • The Incumbent may be assigned to another position at this remuneration level or equivalent.
  • Some work outside of normal hours may be required.
  • Some interstate travel involving overnight absences will be required.
  • This role requires a Working with Children Check.
  • Current South Australian driver’s license is essential
  • You must be an Australian citizen, have permanent residency status or a visa permitting you to work within Australia for the length of the temporary appointment.

Essential Qualification:

  • Tertiary qualifications in education, psychology, social work, business, sports management or other relevant field
