Role Details
The Business Support Officer provides high-level, professional and confidential executive and business support to Directors within the Social Policy and Intergovernmental Relations Division, including the Security and Emergency and Recovery Management (SERM) function.
The role is responsible for coordinating executive workflows, managing competing priorities and ensuring the efficient operation of the Directorate. It requires sound judgement, discretion and the ability to anticipate issues and respond proactively in a dynamic environment. Working closely with executive leadership and corporate service areas, the position supports effective governance, records and financial processes, and contributes to the continuous improvement of administrative systems and practice.
Special Conditions
- The incumbent will be required to participate in the department's Performance Management Program.
- This role requires a National Criminal History check and Security Clearance (including Baseline, Negative Vetting Level 1, Negative Vetting Level 2, Positive Vetting).
- The incumbent may be assigned to another position at this remuneration level or equivalent.
- Operates within a confidential, commercially orientated and, at times politically sensitive environment, requiring the exercise of discretion, sound judgement and professionalism at all times.
- Participates in State Crisis Centre and recovery operations as required, including undertaking on-call duties and contributing to a 24/7 roster during emergency activations.
- May be required to work outside standard business hours, with potential limitations on annual leave during high-risk disaster periods to ensure operational readiness and continuity of service.

About the Business
Security, Emergency and Recovery Management (SERM) provides leadership, advice and guidance for the State’s national security and emergency management governance and policy arrangements. SERM also guides the co-ordination and delivery of whole of Government recovery interventions across a disaster event. They support both the immediate operational and the longer-term considerations and consequences of the disaster event through recovery program planning.
SERM advises and supports the Premier through the Emergency Management Act 2004, supports the Chief Executive as Chair of the State Emergency Management Committee (SEMC), supports the SEMC in achieving their strategic directions and legislated requirements, is the custodian of the State Emergency Management Plan, represents South Australia on national committees and oversees the SA Government protective security policy.
